In the rural India, still the principle source of water are lakes and streams but with the climatic changes, the springs and lakes have pronounced a decrease in their discharge over the years which stood as a major problem. In mountain ecosystem, especially lakes are essential for sustainability. This move by the government was taken for the tourism development in the state of Sikkim and primarily for water availability in the region.
